Photo: UNRIC Brussels What We Do Communications Strategy Develop and implement a coordinated communications strategy for the country/countries they serve, together with the United Nations Country Team and local United Nations partners, to publicise priority issues and major observances and events. Media Outreach Work with national and regional media in the country/countries where they operate, to provide background briefings and press materials, arrange interviews and organise media conferences, as well as to place op-eds and feature articles. Partnerships Create campaigns in partnership with non-governmental organisations and private sector entities to promote key UN issues. Engage with the public Inspire action and engage audiences on UN priority issues by connecting with the public in their local language. Whether on social media, websites, printed information or radio programmes, customized content and translations by UNICs provide a local flavour to global issues. UN Observances and Anniversaries Organise and participate in observances of international days, years, and decades involving local dignitaries, workshops, seminars, educational programmes, sporting events, film screenings, on-line events and musical performances. Educational Outreach Hold regular briefings for students on the issues that will impact their futures, in schools and universities. UNICs also work with educators to help develop UN related curricula for classroom use, and organise and conduct Model UN conferences. Fast Facts Worldwide Coverage 59 field offices covering 139 of countries around the world provide communication guidance on the work of the United Nations to local audiences. Multilingualism UNICs translate/produce information materials in 134 languages. Social Media UNIC Social Media accounts reach a total of 32 million people across the globe.
